Daniel Chelius, MD

Dr. Daniel Chelius, MD, FAAP, FACS, is an associate professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) where he practices pediatric otolaryngology at Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Chelius graduated from Baylor College of Medicine with honors in 2005 before completing Otolaryngology residency at BCM in 2010 and pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at the University of Kansas/Children’s Mercy Hospital. Dr. Chelius has served in multiple leadership roles in organized medicine including terms as President of the Houston Society of Otolaryngology, Chair of the AAOHNS Young Physician’s Section, and many appointed positions on national committees, taskforces and guideline development initiatives. In 2019, he was named AAOHNS/F Annual Meeting Coordinator for 2021 – 2024. Dr. Chelius was recruited to Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) in 2015 to found and direct a new pediatric head and neck tumor program. Embracing a philosophy of seamless, collaborative multidisciplinary care and decision making, Dr. Chelius leads a team of clinicians from across medical, surgical, and ancillary specialties to care for children with complex head and neck tumors through outcomes-driven care pathways. Dr. Chelius also serves as a core member and attending surgeon in the Texas Children’s Pediatric Thyroid Tumor Program. In addition to complex tumor care, Dr. Chelius is a sought-after general pediatric otolaryngologist, having been elected annually to Texas Super Doctors since 2013 and having received multiple patient satisfaction awards at TCH. Dr. Chelius is BCM’s past-councilor for Alpha Omega Alpha and has received multiple medical student and resident teaching awards. Dr. Chelius’s greatest inspirations are his wife, Dr. Amber Pyeatt, and their three children.

Stacey Ishman, MPH, MD

Stacey Ishman, MD, MPH is a Professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Cincinnati, and Medical Director of Utilization Management at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She is also the current President of the International Surgical Sleep Society.

Dr. Ishman earned her medical degree from Rush Medical College and completed a residency in Otolaryngology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She then completed a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at Johns Hopkins and underwent advanced sleep training as a member of the faculty from 2005 through 2013. She obtained her MPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, is board certified in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, Complex Pediatric Otolaryngology, and Sleep Medicine.

Course Faculty

Christopher Brook, MD, FAAOA

Dr. Brook is a board-certified otolaryngologist who practices in an academic setting at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He is originally from California and went to the University of California Santa Barbara for his undergraduate degree. He completed his medical school education at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY, and his residency in otolaryngology at Boston University. He then completed a fellowship in rhinology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. His research interests include the relationship of chronic sinusitis and allergic disease, as well as the relationship of allergen sensitivity and laryngitis. Chris lives in the Boston area with his wife and four children.

 

 

Dana Crosby, MD, MPH, FAAOA

Dana L. Crosby, MD, MPH is Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL. She also serves as the Residency Program Director, Director of Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery, and Director of Otolaryngic Allergy. ​ Her clinical interests include inflammatory rhinology, sinonasal tumors, endoscopic skull base surgery, endoscopic orbital surgery, and the relationship of allergy to diseases of the paranasal sinuses.

 

 

John Fornadley, MD, FAAOA

Dr. Fornadley graduated from St. Francis College (Loretto, PA) and studied medicine at Penn State’s M.S. Hershey Medical Center (1981). Internship at Bethesda Naval Hospital, followed by Undersea and Hyperbaric training with the US Navy. After 2 years with Submarine Squadron SIX, he was a resident in otolaryngology at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, graduating and becoming board certified in 1989. After 2 years as a faculty at Portsmouth, he joined the faculty of Penn State as an Assistant Professor.

In 1999, he entered private practice in the Harrisburg area, and has remained there for the balance of his career. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 2005, and plans to reduce his practice to office otolaryngology in 2023. Jack has a career interest in general otolaryngology, sinus disease, allergy, and otology.

 

Suman Golla, MD, FAAOA 

Dr.Suman Golla is a former Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine.  In 2019, she opened her solo private practice Golla ENT.  After graduating from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience, (and working as a sports announcer for the basketball team), Dr. Golla received her medical degree from the University of Maryland in Baltimore. She then went on to complete an internship in general surgery and a residency in Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to opening her private practice (Golla ENT) 3 years ago, Dr. Golla worked for UPMC for over 20 years. In addition to seeing a large volume of patients, she also taught scores of medical students and residents as an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology/ University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She has been published in numerous medical journals, served on several UPMC and national committees,  and been a frequent lecturer. She is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Helene Krouse, PhD, RN

Dr. Helene Krouse is a Professor in the School of Medicine at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas. Dr. Krouse is the Program Director for the Master of Science in Bioethics. Dr. Krouse completed her BS in Nursing at the State University of New York, Health Science Center and her M.S. in Nursing at the University of Rochester. She earned her PhD, in Educational Psychology from Boston College. Dr. Krouse is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and is a Past President of the Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head-Neck Nurses.

She is also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery. She has served on the expert panels for numerous clinical guidelines including the 2015 AAO-HNSF Clinical Practice Guideline: Allergic Rhinitis and the 2018 International Consensus Statement on Allergy and Rhinology: Allergic Rhinitis.

John Krouse, PhD, MBA, MD, FAAOA – Course Co-Director 

Dr. John Krouse is a retired professor, former chair of otolaryngology at the Lewis Katz School of medicine at Temple University, and former dean of the School of Medicine and executive vice president for Health Affairs at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Dr. Krouse graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University, and received his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Rochester. He earned his MD from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Krouse also received an MBA from the Fox School of Business at Temple University.

Dr. Krouse completed his internship in surgery at Beth Israel Hospital and his residency training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is board certified in otolaryngology.

Dr. Krouse is currently editor in chief of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and its sister open access journal, OTO Open.

Michelle Liu, MD, FAAOA

Michelle Ferdinand Liu, MD, MPH is a Fellow if the AAOA and a Comprehensive Otolaryngologist in private practice. She is an alumna of the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University and has a Master of Public Health from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. She is a retired veteran of the United States Navy who served as a physician in the military for 21 years. She completed general surgery internship and was stationed with the Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan prior to her Otolaryngology residency training at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. Dr. Liu has practiced Otolaryngology overseas in Italy and has launched sublingual allergy practices in multiple states on the east coast. She has been a C-suite leader with a passion for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety for the past ten years. In addition to her clinical practice and healthcare executive engagement, Dr. Liu coaches healthcare providers in patient-centered communication and leadership. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, swimming, and spending time with family.

Kibwei McKinney, MD, FAAOA 

Dr. Kibwei A. McKinney was born and raised in Washington, D.C. He pursued his undergraduate education at Stanford University, where he majored in Human Biology and minored in Spanish Language. Upon graduation, he moved back to Washington, where he worked on Capitol Hill as a legislative assistant through the Barbara Jordan Congressional Scholars Program and later as a high school teacher. From there, his studies took him to the University of Pennsylvania where he completed medical school in 2008. He pursued residency at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. During his training, he completed a T32 National Institutes of Health research fellowship, performing 2 years of translational research in the lab of Dr. Julia Kimball, Ph. D. After finishing residency in 2014, he completed a fellowship in Rhinology at the Georgia Nasal and Sinus Institute in Savannah, GA, under the direction of Drs. Chris Melroy and Frederick Kuhn. He then returned to UNC-Chapel Hill to complete a second fellowship in Anterior Skull Base Surgery, under the direction of Dr. Adam M. Zanation. In 2016, he joined the faculty at the University of Oklahoma, where he practices in Rhinology, Allergy, and Skull Base Surgery. He serves as the medical director of the Otolaryngology Clinic at OU Health Physicians and is the Associate Program Director of the Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Residency Program.

Michael Platt, MD, MSc, FAAOA

Michael Platt MD, MSc is an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Boston University School of Medicine.  He serves as Director of Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery and Residency Program Director. Dr. Platt attended the University of Scranton and Jefferson Medical College before pursuing Otolaryngology training at Albany Medical Center, Rhinology Fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and a Masters Degree in Clinical Bioinformatics from Boston University.

 

 

William Reisacher, MD, FAAOA

William Reisacher, MD FAAOA is a board-certified otolaryngologist, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of airborne and food allergies in children and adults. Dr. Reisacher graduated from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1994, with Distinction in Research, and completed his Otolaryngology residency at The New York Eye & Ear Infirmary in 2000. He is currently on the full–time faculty of the Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Department at Weill Cornell Medical College / NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, where he is a Professor and the Director of Allergy Services. Dr. Reisacher has published numerous chapters and research papers, holds patents in the areas of medical devices and allergy diagnostics, and has presented his work at both national and international meetings. An Honor Award recipient for the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, he has served on the Allergy & Immunology Committee, Board of Governors and the Board of Directors of the AAOA. He has appeared on national and local news broadcasts, providing commentary on ENT/allergy topics, and has founded companies in the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and digital healthtech spaces.

Robert Stachler, MD, FAAOA

After being in academics for over 20 yrs, Dr. Stachler started his private practice in Otolaryngic Allergy, Laryngology, and Comprehensive Otolaryngology in 2018.  He has been involved in the AAOA for over 25 yrs and has been a faculty member of the Basic and Advanced courses.  He has also given lectures for the resident courses in the past in Las Colinas (near Dallas).  He has
been a perennial contributor to annual AAOA Courses ,and he has given many talks on various topics including Laryngeal Allergy, Eosinophillic Esophagitis, Reflux, Covid 19 Restart: Safe Practices in the Office, and Starting and Maintaining an Allergy Practice.  He has numerous publications in these areas and has spoken nationally and internationally about them.  He has been on the board as an At-Large Member Secretary, and as the Educational Coordinator(currently).

 

Jennifer Villwock, MD, FAAOA – Course Co-Director 

Dr. Jennifer Villwock is a board-certified otolaryngologist and fellow of the AAOA. She attended medical school at the Michigan State University – College of Human Medicine and residency at SUNY-Upstate in Syracuse, NY. Dr. Villwock is currently an assistant professor and associate residency program director at the University of Kansas. Her academic interests include olfaction and sinonasal disease. She is also passionate about medical education from the undergraduate level to continuing education.
