Purpose
The Interactive Allergy & Rhinology Course presents basic concepts and techniques applicable to the clinical care of allergic patients, as well as clinical fundamentals and review materials for the MOC in Allergy and Rhinology. Additionally, the AAOA sponsors residents from ACGME-accredited otolaryngology training programs to help augment their residency training in allergy and immunology.
Content Area
The AAOA CME program centers around clinical issues related to the care of allergy/immunology and inflammatory diseases of the airways and systems related to the head and neck.
The Interactive Allergy & Rhinology Course focuses on:
- Allergy in the otolaryngology practice
- Allergy testing (Prick, IT, IDT, In Vitro)
- Treatment of allergy (SCIT, SLIT, dose calculations, vial prep)
- Introduction to advanced topics (unified airway, asthma, food allergies, SLIT)
- Integration of SLIT into treatment discussions
- Diagnosis and medical and surgical management of sinus disease
- Pediatric sinusitis
- Immunodeficiencies, cystic fibrosis
- Sinus anatomy and imaging
- Septal and nasal valve surgery
- Epistaxis
- Headache, taste, and smell
- Sinus complications
Target Audience
The Interactive Allergy & Rhinology Course is structured for otolaryngologists preparing to sit for the ABOto MOC Exam and AAOA Associate members preparing for the Fellow Exam. The course is also valuable for otolaryngologists integrating more allergy assessment and management into their practice, AAOA members providing specialized allergy care who need to remain current with literature-based evidence and practice trends, residents, and NP/PAs who work in otolaryngology. The Interactive Allergy & Rhinology Course offers face-to-face opportunities with the faculty to discuss nuances and answer questions.
Expected Results
The Interactive Allergy & Rhinology Course is intended to advance physician competence and performance and is intended to result in improved patient care outcomes. Upon completion of the course, participants should demonstrate competence in the evaluation and management of the allergic patient, including utilization of appropriate testing techniques, implementation of environmental control, delivery of allergy pharmacotherapy, and delivery of safe immunotherapy.
Accreditation Statement
The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
AMA Credit Designation Statement
The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy designates this live activity for 22.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. The amount will be determined based on the final agenda. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
