Celebrating Over 80 Years Of Service!

The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA) represents over 2,700 Board-certified otolaryngologists and health care providers. Otolaryngology, frequently referred to as Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT), uniquely combines medical and surgical expertise to care for patients with a variety of conditions affecting the ears, nose, and throat, as well as commonly related conditions. AAOA members devote part of their practice to the diagnosis and treatment of allergic disease. The AAOA actively supports its membership through education, research, and advocacy in the care of allergic patients.

"Advance the comprehensive management of allergy and inflammatory disease in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery through training, education, and advocacy."

Friday, February 8 – Sunday, February 10, 2019
Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas | Dallas, TX

Purpose

The Interactive Allergy & Rhinology Course presents basic concepts and techniques applicable to the clinical care of allergic patients, as well as clinical fundamentals and review materials for the MOC in Allergy and Rhinology. Additionally, the AAOA sponsors residents from ACGME-accredited otolaryngology training programs to help augment their residency training in allergy and immunology.

Content Area

The AAOA CME program centers around clinical issues related to the care of allergy/immunology and inflammatory diseases of the airways and systems related to the head and neck.

The Interactive Allergy & Rhinology Course focuses on:

  • Allergy in the otolaryngology practice
  • Allergy testing (Prick, IT, IDT, In Vitro)
  • Treatment of allergy (SCIT, SLIT, dose calculations, vial prep)
  • Introduction to advanced topics (unified airway, asthma, food allergies, SLIT)
  • Integration of SLIT into treatment discussions
  • Diagnosis and medical and surgical management of sinus disease
  • Pediatric sinusitis
  • Immunodeficiencies, cystic fibrosis
  • Sinus anatomy and imaging
  • Septal and nasal valve surgery
  • Epistaxis
  • Headache, taste, and smell
  • Sinus complications

Target Audience

The Interactive Allergy & Rhinology Course is structured for otolaryngologists preparing to sit for the ABOto MOC Exam and AAOA Associate members preparing for the Fellow Exam. The course is also valuable for otolaryngologists integrating more allergy assessment and management into their practice, AAOA members providing specialized allergy care who need to remain current with literature-based evidence and practice trends, residents, and NP/PAs who work in otolaryngology. The Interactive Allergy & Rhinology Course offers face-to-face opportunities with the faculty to discuss nuances and answer questions.

Expected Results

The Interactive Allergy & Rhinology Course is intended to advance physician competence and performance and is intended to result in improved patient care outcomes. Upon completion of the course, participants should demonstrate competence in the evaluation and management of the allergic patient, including utilization of appropriate testing techniques, implementation of environmental control, delivery of allergy pharmacotherapy, and delivery of safe immunotherapy.

Accreditation Statement

The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
