Celebrating Over 80 Years Of Service!

The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA) represents over 2,700 Board-certified otolaryngologists and health care providers. Otolaryngology, frequently referred to as Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT), uniquely combines medical and surgical expertise to care for patients with a variety of conditions affecting the ears, nose, and throat, as well as commonly related conditions. AAOA members devote part of their practice to the diagnosis and treatment of allergic disease. The AAOA actively supports its membership through education, research, and advocacy in the care of allergic patients.

"Advance the comprehensive management of allergy and inflammatory disease in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery through training, education, and advocacy."

Explorers course FAQs

Q: What happened to the Advanced Course?
A: The AAOA decided to sunset the course formerly known as the Advanced Course in Allergy & Immunology. While the Advanced Course had a great run, we wanted to provide you educational programming that encompasses your full scope of practice. Thanks to your feedback, we reimagined what was once the Advanced Course and now bring you the Explorers Course 2025: Surgical & Medical Management of Airway Disease in Otolaryngology.

Q: What is the Explorers Course?
A: The Explorers Course will take a deeper dive into surgical and medical interventions for allergy and inflammatory and airway disease in the ENT practice. Focused on state-of-the-art science, this course is designed to provide contemporary clinical updates and tools for practice.  The goal is to offer content that offers takeaways to give you something you can implement in your practice

Q: How is the Explorers Course different?
A: Offering a deeper dive into the surgical and medical management of airway diseases, here’s what makes the 2025 Explorers Course stand out:

  • Contemporary Topics: A deeper dive on new and emerging topics in Otolaryngic Allergy. 2025 focuses on ETD, chronic cough, OSA, asthma, smell and taste, SLIT, and more.
  • Two-Year Curriculum: While 2025 will focus on Advancing the Surgical and Medical Management of Airway Disease, 2026 will delve into topics such as Geriatrics, Climate & Environmental Extremes, Food Additive, Complementary & Alternative Medicine, and Drug Allergy.
  • Integrated Learning: More engagement with shorter lectures and practical, patient-centered discussions.
  • Hands-On Focus: A greater emphasis on networking and hands-on learning opportunities.
  • Immediate Practice Application: Tangible takeaways that can be implemented directly into your practice.

Q: Did anything stay the same?
A: The course will retain many of the features that participants have valued from the Advanced Courses:

  • Solid Foundations: Pre-work content to build the knowledge base, without redundancy.
  • Expert Faculty: Renowned speakers and faculty members will continue to provide insight and lead discussions.
  • Choice and Flexibility: A hybrid format means you can choose how to participate and all content will be available online for 90 days after the course.
  • Location and Networking: In addition to the live course, Vail offers a spectacular location for those preferring a getaway, along with ample networking opportunities.

Q: Can I join virtually
A: Absolutely! As with all of our courses and meetings, the Explorers course will be offered as a hybrid course.

Q: The Advanced Course used to be a required criteria for attaining Fellow status. Will the Explorers Course count?
A: For those prepping for the Fellow Exam, this new course will also be accepted as one of the required components.

Q: What if I have more questions?
A: Please email [email protected] or call the AAOA office at 202-955-5010.
