Celebrating Over 80 Years Of Service!

The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA) represents over 2,700 Board-certified otolaryngologists and health care providers. Otolaryngology, frequently referred to as Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT), uniquely combines medical and surgical expertise to care for patients with a variety of conditions affecting the ears, nose, and throat, as well as commonly related conditions. AAOA members devote part of their practice to the diagnosis and treatment of allergic disease. The AAOA actively supports its membership through education, research, and advocacy in the care of allergic patients.

AAOA Annual Meeting 2017

Annual Meeting Highlights

Welcome to the Radically Redesign 2017 AAOA Annual Meeting

This September, join us in Chicago, where culture meets content at the redesigned AAOA Annual Meeting featuring the food, art, and architecture of Chicago, thoughtfully blended with what you need to know for your practice to thrive in these challenging times.

For our 2017 Annual Meeting we are going back to where it all started. The Palmer House Hilton Hotel is a timeless Chicago landmark that hosted the AAOA’s first annual meeting (as well as many ABOto Board exams). This year’s meeting promises to be interactive, practice-centered, and fun!  Read More

NEW! Windy City Tours: Content Meets Culture – Conversations with Experts

In an effort to maximize educational value, content, and time, the AAOA Education Committee has developed a unique learning experience for our 2017 Annual Meeting Attendees. Building on the “outside the classroom” concept to improve learning and networking and build on case-based learning and problem solving, the AAOA has paired hot topics in otolaryngic allergy with unique walking tours featuring the art, architecture, history, and culture of Chicago.

So many times, we go to continuing education meetings to end up sitting in the basement of a hotel without any exposure to the city we are in. Recognizing part of any meeting participation is the opportunity to experience the city, the culture, and the unique character the city offers, we wanted to blend our scientific program with opportunities to get outside and experience Chicago. ReCAP – Review of Core Allergy Principles

The AAOA Education Committee is pleased to announce that, in addition to updating the format and educational venue for the Annual meeting, there will be a revision of the Basic Principles of Allergy workshop. The Basic Principles of Allergy program will emerge as ReCAP, which stands for Review of Core Allergy Principles.

This course is intended to provide a condensed but fully updated presentation of the core principles taught in the Basic course. This is an excellent opportunity for the allergy fellow to hear what may have changed in the Basic curriculum. It is an important introduction to basic principles for a physician or allied health member who has not yet been able to attend the Basic course. ReCAP is also a great way for residents to sample allergy principles as they determine what level of allergy they intend to perform in their practice. Strategies & Tactics To Improve Efficiencies For Better Patient Care

In response to member feedback, we have expanded on continuing education content to include a full day of content on the business of medicine. When asked what keeps you up at night, you responded vehemently on issues tied to practice management, improving office efficiencies, staffing, and best models for utilization of staff resources, contracting, coding, billing, and practice transitions. In an effort to help you sleep better at night, we have developed a full day program focused on these practice management issues to help you navigate the healthcare arena both now and as it goes through its own metamorphosis.

According to Doug Dawson, MD, AAOA Socioeconomic Chair, “What a great day of content! A huge amount of important information from multiple angles to help improve your fund of knowledge in the business of medicine in one day. Sure to be time well spent while out of your office to hear excellent speakers with practical information”. Read More

You Are Invited

AAOA President, Whit Mims, MD, invites you to experience the 2017 Annual Meeting. “The AAOA Annual Meeting in Chicago this year is unlike any before.  There is a strong focus on practice management.  We have invested substantially in active rather than passive learning strategies.  Peer to peer learning will occur in the Art Institute of Chicago and along Walking Tours through downtown Chicago”. Director of Educational Programs, Cecelia Damask, DO, is looking forward to hosting you at a truly redesigned Annual Meeting in the wonderful city of Chicago. Read More
