COVID-19 Safety
To reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, we are adopting a policy to safeguard the health of our members and the community at large. The AAOA strongly encourages all attendees at AAOA meetings to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
As part of AAOA’s new policy, all attendees, upon arrival at our event and in order to be allowed to enter the event space, are required to show documentation of either 1) full vaccination against COVID-19 or 2) proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test performed within 72 hours of arrival.
Acceptable documentation includes:
- Physical vaccination card
- Digital vaccination record
- Photograph of vaccination card
- Physical or digital proof of negative PCR test results
AAOA meeting attendees must also take precautions to prevent acquiring breakthrough infections and follow CDC guidelines regarding masking, social distancing, etc. Additionally, attendees must adhere to all requirements and guidelines of the State of New Mexico, the City of Santa Fe, and the event facility to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the 2022 AAOA Advanced Course in Santa Fe. Currently, as of 01/10/22, Santa Fe requires masks for all indoor venues. As a result, the meeting rooms will require a mask.
The AAOA, in its sole discretion, may decline to allow anyone not adhering to these safety precautions to enter the event space; in which case any registration fees or other amounts paid or incurred by any such person shall be deemed forfeited and not subject to reimbursement or refund.
Purpose
Led by Jack Krouse, MD, PhD, MBA & Jennifer Villwock, MD, the Advanced Course in Allergy & Immunology builds on the basic clinical care of allergic patient concepts and techniques presented at the AAOA’s Basic Course in Allergy & Immunology. It delves into concomitant disease, comorbidities, organ-based symptomatology and disease management, and the more complicated patient.
Content Area
The AAOA CME program centers around clinical issues related to the care of allergy/immunology and inflammatory diseases of the airways and systems related to the head and neck.
The Advanced Course focuses on:
- Immunology and efficacy of Immunotherapy (SCIT and SLIT)
- Diagnosis and management of food allergy
- Laryngeal allergy and chronic cough
- Advanced topics (aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease, medication allergy, local allergy, and skin allergy)
- Asthma diagnosis and management, including physiological tests and evidence based asthma treatment guidelines
- Chronic sinus disease and the future of sinus management integrating surgery and medical management
- Assessment and treatment of smell disorders in a new COVID era
Target Audience
The Advanced Course is structured for otolaryngologists integrating more allergy assessment and management into their practice, AAOA members providing specialized allergy care who need to remain current with literature-based evidence and practice trends, residents, PA/NPs who work in otolaryngology, and allied health staff who support their physicians in the management of allergic patients. The Advanced Course offers face-to-face opportunities with the faculty to discuss nuances and answer questions.
Expected Results
The Advanced Course is intended to advance physician competence and performance and is intended to result in improved patient care outcomes. Upon completion of the course, participants should demonstrate competence in the evaluation and management of the allergic patient, including utilization of appropriate testing techniques, implementation of environmental control, delivery of allergy pharmacotherapy, and delivery of safe immunotherapy.
Accreditation Statement
The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
AMA Credit Designation Statement
The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy designates this live activity for a maximum of 18.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
ABOHNS Continuing Certification Recognition Statement
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn their required annual part II self-assessment credit in the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery’s Continuing Certification program (CC, formerly known as MOC). It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of recognizing participation.

As an AAOA member can choose to participate in ABOHNS Continuing Certification credits (CC Part II: Self-Assessment credits by click the CC option when registering for this activity. As our pilot year, the AAOA is making the participation in ABOHNS Continuing Certification credits (CC) free for AAOA members with this CME course registration. CC opt-in option is complimentary until the course ends. You will be asked to pay $100 late fee if you miss the deadline and still want to claim Continuing Certification credits (CC) for this activity. Non Members can also participate in ABOHNS continuing certification for an additional fee.
