Celebrating Over 80 Years Of Service!

The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA) represents over 2,700 Board-certified otolaryngologists and health care providers. Otolaryngology, frequently referred to as Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT), uniquely combines medical and surgical expertise to care for patients with a variety of conditions affecting the ears, nose, and throat, as well as commonly related conditions. AAOA members devote part of their practice to the diagnosis and treatment of allergic disease. The AAOA actively supports its membership through education, research, and advocacy in the care of allergic patients.

CEO Update – Re·im·ag·ine

Leap to Moon AAOA CEO Update

re·im·ag·ine
verb
reinterpret (an event, work of art, etc) imaginatively; rethink

Reimagined, Reinvented, Reinvigorated….these are all fervently used terms to help define how our world and our day-to-day activities are challenging us to rethink relevancy and how to make even simple things have a personal impact.  Everyone seems to being using “disruptive innovation” to explain everything from well thought out changes to external factors forcing change.

So what are the disrupters in medicine?

  • We know time is a precious commodity and EMRs are usurping more of that resource than most folks planned on.
  • We know payers keep changing the game — everything from changes in formularies to what they consider standard of care and reimbursable.
  • We know payer changes impact patient compliance; Patient compliance affects outcomes.
  • We know personalized health care and needing to meet each patient’s unique needs is a growing reality.  Medicine, while methodical, has never been cookbook.
  • We know continuing education takes many forms, and depending on what the “learner” needs, be it CME credits for licensure or understanding the role of new guidelines or pharmaceutical tools, education may need to be many things to many different learners.

Online education offers convenience, timeliness, and easy access.

Live education offers unique peer-to-peer and peer-to-faculty networking tied specifically to the cohort in the room.  It allows for time away from everyday distractions to allow focus on learning.

Both offer opportunities to learn new approaches, techniques, protocols to make an impact in how you treat your patients.

Your AAOA has been reimagining our continuing education.  We are reinventing how we deliver CME.

We augmented our live CME with our online Clinical Insight Modules over the past couple years.  These modules allow members to enhance their medical knowledge from the convenience of their home, on their own time.

Now we are focused on bringing innovation to our Annual Meeting and reinventing how we deliver live CME.

As I write this, we are fine-tuning our 2019 Annual Meeting program.

Free Registration!
As an AAOA member, your registration for the Annual Meeting is Free!  If you have not yet paid your 2019 membership dues, we encourage you to do so to take advantage of this great member value encompassing three-days of learning and networking with peers.  If you have not yet joined, you still have time to apply (membership application link).

Content Meets Culture Tours
Building on prior innovations, we will bring our Content Meets Culture Tours to New Orleans.  Not-to-be-missed opportunities to participate in small group discussions on timely ENT patient management topics blended with a unique opportunity to get out into New Orleans and see what makes the city sitting at the mouth of the Mississippi and known for jazz, creole and Cajun cuisine, and hurricanes unique.

Cutting Edge Clinical Content

From a content standpoint, we are blending cutting-edge clinical content with practical, case-based discussions.  Come learn everything from the practicalities of incorporating SLIT or biologics into your practice to what is the latest on food allergy diagnosis and management and trends in sinus disease management.

Practice Management Tools & Resources

Practice Management content continues to be a highly sought after.  Come learn what others are doing about staff management, revenue streams, and changes in physician practice models, along with marketing, social media, and how to be visible in the din of medical marketing today.

USP 797

Focused sessions on USP 797, in office compounding, complete with a media fill test will be offered for you and your staff.  Take advantage of this add on workshop while you are in New Orleans to help assure you are up-to-date with the USP 797 regulations and can demonstrate compliance with the media fill test.

Office Management

Staffing is your most critical resource.  Healthcare is built on solid team work.  AAOA is offering a unique practice focused team-building workshop with the team from VitalSmarts and their Crucial Conversations strategies.  This is a great opportunity to strengthen your office team and improve intrastaff communications

We appreciate all your feedback to help us reimagine our Annual Meeting.  Your input is helping us build a better program relevant to your day-to-day practice needs and challenges.  Take the time to register early to help assure you are part of this unique program. (reg link).  We look forward to seeing you in the Big Easy!
