CEO Update, April 2025
“It’s one thing to be a part of an organization. It’s another thing to be a part of the community.”- Travis Kelce
It’s NFL draft weekend. So it seems fitting that one of the better quotes about community comes from a renowned NFL player. Team sports like football showcase the value of community. Community really is bigger than ourselves and offers a strong place of joy and belonging where we are here for each other. “Teamwork,” whether on the grid iron or in an OR, requires everyone to bring their talent and expertise to the “play” to execute well.
While defined as a national specialty organization, AAOA offers each of its members an opportunity to be a part of our community. Our recent Explorers Course was a great example of everyone coming together to be inspired by the faculty and learn from each other. The sharing extended beyond the classroom too with many attendees joining each other on the slopes with continued chatter about their practices and what they learned on the lifts. Each of you is an expert, and your willingness to share how you approach similar otolaryngic cases, practice challenges, and more helps our community grow and strengthen. Thank you!

We want to thank Haidy Marzouk, MD, Chair, Bill Reisacher, MD, Michelle Liu, MD, and the Patient and Professional Education Committee for expanding our Food Allergy resources. Another great example of individuals sharing expertise for the betterment of our community. We invite each of you to share your approach to patient education around food issues to help your patient make sense of symptoms, processing the latest TikTok, advice, to owning their diagnosis to improve compliance and outcomes. Foods can be perplexing, and everyone is looking for better ways to help their patients manage their symptoms. Your input can help a colleague.
Focusing on our community, your leadership continues to share tools and resources to help you in your practice. We welcome your feedback, your insights on solutions that work for your, or your challenges where you could use some help ([email protected]). Your input will help us focus our efforts in how we expand our practice resources too. We look forward to hearing from you!
