Christopher Brook, MD, FAAOA – Course Co-Director
Dr. Brook is a board-certified otolaryngologist who practices in an academic setting at Boston University Medical Center. He is originally from California and went to the University of California Santa Barbara for his undergraduate degree. He completed his medical school education at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY, and his residency in otolaryngology at Boston University. He then completed a fellowship in rhinology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He is an assistant professor of otolaryngology at Boston University, and his research interests include the relationship of chronic sinusitis and allergic disease, as well as the relationship of allergen sensitivity and laryngitis. Chris lives in the Boston area with his wife and two children.

Cecelia Damask, DO, FAAOA – Course Co-Director
Dr. Damask is in private practice at Lake Mary Ear, Nose, Throat and Allergy in the greater Orlando, FL area. She received her DO from Midwestern University/Chicago College of Medicine and completed her residency training at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and has presented at various AAOA courses and meetings since 2009. Dr. Damask currently serves as AAOA Education Coordinator.

Michael Parker, MD, FAAOA – Course Co-Director
Dr. Parker received his medical degree in 1982 from the State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse, and completed his otolaryngic residency there in 1987. He currently practices privately, but maintains a close affiliation with the Health Science Center and is actively involved in teaching residents and students. Dr. Parker has served as a board member, Scientific Director, CME Chairman, and President of the AAOA, and in several faculty positions for the AAOA. He is the Past President of the Foundation Board.

A native of Pennsylvania, she obtained her undergraduate degree from Allegheny College before receiving her medical degree from Drexel University. Dr. Crosby completed her residency training at Southern Illinois University and went on to complete a fellowship in Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Since that time, she has served as faculty at Southern Illinois University. While serving as faculty at SIU, she obtained a Master of Public Health degree from Emory University. Dr. Crosby serves as Associate Professor in the Department Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery at Southern Illinois University. She is the Director of the Division of Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery as well as the Director of Otolaryngic Allergy. Dr. Crosby is the Residency Program Director, and Medical Student Clerkship Director. She was elected “SIU Surgical Educator of the Year” in 2018.

She is a native of Watkins Glen, NY and received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. She received her M.D. from SUNY Upstate Medical Center and completed her residency training at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Melissa Hertler, MD, FAAOA

Melissa Hertler is a General Otolaryngologist and Otolaryngic Allergist who recently made the transition to rural practice in the beautiful mountain town of Lander, Wyoming after practicing for 10 years in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has had experience in academic, multidisciplinary group, and private practice prior to her current position. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and completed her residency at the University of New Mexico. She is a fellow of the AAOA, and is an active member of several committees. She has presented courses at the AAOA Annual Meeting for the last few years, and was a member of the board of directors. She is enjoying filling the need for specialists in the underserved rural Mountain West, as well as the abundance of local recreational activities with her husband and sons.

Steven M. Houser grew up in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Houser attended Ohio State for medical school, did residency training in otolaryngology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and fellowship training in rhinology/allergy at The University of Chicago. He is presently the director of rhinology, sinus, and allergy at MetroHealth Medical Center and a Professor of Otolaryngology at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Laury is an Assistant Professor at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium currently stationed in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Levy is a board-certified otolaryngologist who practices in an academic setting at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. He is originally from Maryland and went to Cornell University for his undergraduate degree. Andrea F. Lewis, MD, FAAOA

Dr. Lewis is an Assistant Professor and Associate Program Director at the University of MS Medical Center. She specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of general disorders of the head and neck in adult and pediatric patients, but has a special interest in the relationship between allergic rhinitis and sleep and in the surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. The focus of Dr. Lewis’ research is rhinitis associated with positive pressure use. Dr. Lewis is board certified in Otolaryngology and Sleep Medicine, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. Dr. Lewis is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, National Committee for Sleep in Otolaryngology, Society of University Otolaryngologists, president of the Mississippi Society of Otolaryngology, and member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. She was previously an assistant clinical professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Alfred Sassler, DO, FACS, FAAOA

Dr. Sassler graduated in the top 5% of his class from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine on a Navy Scholarship in 1983. He completed his residency at Portsmouth Naval Hospital and a Head and Neck Fellowship at University of Michigan. His 11 year Naval service concluded by training residents back at Portsmouth, while directing the Head and Neck Surgery service and the outpatient clinic. His civilian career began in 1994, opening a rural Kentucky, general OHNS practice while teaching part-time at University of Cincinnati. This allowed him to personally care for his more complex patients in an academic center while providing aftercare closer to home. In 2008 he was recruited to craft an OHNS service for King’s Daughters Medical Center, eventually employing all the Otolaryngologists in Ashland, KY. In 2011 he returned to Cincinnati as full-time faculty where he continues to teach and practice comprehensive OHNS, and directs a busy ENT Allergy program. He has published several peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, and presented at regional and national meetings. He has also served on a wide variety of committees and held leadership roles in most of the hospitals and institutions with which he has been affiliated. This wide-ranging career affords him a unique point of view on Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in America today.

Kristin A. Seiberling, MD, FAAOA

Dr. Seiberling is an associate professor at Loma Linda University Medical Center. She received her medical degree and completed her Otolaryngology residency at Northwestern University in Chicago Illinois. Dr. Wes Vander Ark is a general otolaryngologist in private practice in Harrisburg, PA. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Calvin College, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, attended medical school at Wake Forest School of Medicine in North Carolina, and then completed residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Sarah K. Wise, MD, MSCR is a Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Jodi D. Zuckerman, MD, FAAOA

Dr. Jodi Zuckerman is a Chicago native originally from Buffalo Grove, Illinois. She attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for her undergraduate studies receiving a Bachelors of Science in Biology and minoring in Chemistry and Religious Studies. She continued her surgical training with an Otolaryngology Residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Currently Dr. Zuckerman is part of a four person private practice general otolaryngology group in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Her interests include allergy, sinus inflammatory disorders of the nose, sleep apnea, and endoscopic sinus surgery.
